Single for the Holidays? Don’t Let Loneliness Make Your Decisions!

Finding a Man Worth Keeping book series

There’s something about the holidays that can make being single feel especially difficult.

Between romantic Christmas movies, couples celebrating together, and those well-meaning relatives asking about your love life, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out. But what if the greatest mistake you could make this holiday season isn’t being alone—but choosing the wrong person because you don’t want to be?

Believe me, I understand!

Before meeting and marrying my husband, Will, I went on more than 100 dates and experienced two broken engagements. I know firsthand the disappointment of believing you’ve finally found the right man, only to discover the relationship isn’t what you hoped. Here’s what I learned along the way.

1. Loneliness Is a Feeling, Not a Reason to Settle

It’s natural to want someone special in your life. But don’t let temporary loneliness lead you into a relationship that compromises your values or your peace. Being with someone who isn’t right for you can be far lonelier than being single.

2. Pay Attention to Character, Not Just Chemistry

Attraction is wonderful, but it isn’t enough to build a lasting relationship. Look for consistency. Does he follow through on his promises? Does he respect your boundaries? Do his actions match his words?
Chemistry may spark a relationship, but character helps sustain it.

3. Don’t Put Your Life on Hold

One of the greatest mistakes single women can make is treating marriage as the starting line for their real lives. Your life isn’t waiting to begin when you find a husband!

God has friendships, opportunities, adventures, and purposes for you to experience right now.
So enjoy this holiday season. Celebrate the relationships you already have, keep growing into the woman God created you to be, and trust Him with the desires of your heart.

And remember: Finding a man worth keeping begins with knowing you’re a woman worth finding.
